Consumer Confidence Report

May 2023      NEXT MEETING: MAY 31, 2023    Christian Heritage School   7p.m.

This report is designed to inform you about the quality of water and services delivered by your water association.  The goal of Edwall Water Association is to provide its members with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water.  Efforts are continually being made to improve the water treatment process and protect our water resources.  We are committed to ensuring the quality of our water.  Listed below are important facts pertaining to our system:

  • Our drinking water is safe and meets Federal and State requirements.
  • Edwall Water Association routinely monitors for contaminants in our drinking water according to Federal and State Laws.
  • Testing is done on a monthly or yearly basis, depending on the type of test.  Substances tested for include nitrate, nitrite, lead, copper, arsenic, alpha and beta radionuclides, and volatile organic chemicals. None of the above substances has been detected in our water.  If significant levels are ever detected, all members will be notified and lab results will be made available. See the attached table for the results of the latest tests.
  • Our system passed a Sanitary Survey Inspection in November of 2020 (done every 3 years).
  • Edwall Water Association gets its water from a well west of the school.  The well is approximately 261 feet deep, employs a pitless wellhead, and taps into the Crab Creek Watershed.
  • The pump is 61 feet below the surface. The pump control panels are protected by an insulated structure on a concrete foundation with locked entry and is surrounded by an eight foot security fence.  A 105,000 gallon concrete tank provides storage. A new pump/motor was installed in December of 2021.
  • Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants.  The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk.  More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the Environmental Protection Agency’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
  • Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immunocompromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
  • LEAD INFORMATION STATEMENT: Elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children.  Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing.  EWA is responsible for providing high quality drinking water, but cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components.  When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead exposure by flushing your tap for thirty seconds to two minutes before using water for drinking or cooking.  If you are concerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your water tested.  Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.
  • We have a source water protection plan available from our office that provides more information such as potential sources of contamination.
  • If you have an emergency, any questions about this report or questions concerning your water utility, please contact Ira Smithpeter (236-2430),), Bill Stromberger (236-2465), Bruce Cousins (236-2247), Marty Klein (236-2366), Carol Paul (236-2207) or Lisa McCarthy (509-239-4553. We want our members to be informed about their water utility.
